Stubble burning in a harvested field

What if waste wasn’t waste?

PelletRates is the biomass platform of Peltra Energy. We share free information on the sector, bridge supply to demand, and help anyone set up and run a business in pellets, compressed biogas or biochar.

Every harvest leaves something behind.

India’s fields produce paddy straw, rice husk, mustard and cotton stalk, bagasse, groundnut shell and dozens of other residues. Most of it has no buyer.

  1. The crop is harvested

Paddy, wheat, mustard, cotton, sugarcane. The grain leaves the field; the straw and stalk stay.

  2. The field must be cleared fast

Weeks before the next sowing. Collecting residue costs money, and buyers are few.

  3. So it is set alight

Open burning is the cheapest way to clear a field, and a large share of north India's winter smog.

  4. Fuel becomes ash

Every tonne burned could have been pellets, gas or biochar, sold at a price.

The market is broken because nobody can see it.

There is no reliable public information on biomass: no benchmark, no map of who buys what, no clear picture of subsidies. Every sale is a private negotiation. Buyers can’t find a dependable supplier, farmers can’t find a buyer, and people who want to build a plant have no real numbers to plan on. So residue burns, buyers stay on coal, and good projects never start.

What if the whole chain could work from the same facts?

The same residue, three ways to sell it.

Which one makes sense depends on the residue, the state and the buyer. We work across all three, from pricing and reports to plant setup and offtake.

Biomass pellets

Pellets and briquettes

Solid fuel for co-firing, boilers and kilns in place of coal.

Compressed biogas plant from above

Compressed biogas

Residue digested into pipeline-grade gas for transport and industry.

Biochar

Biochar

Pyrolysed residue for soil health and carbon removal.

Anyone who needs direction in biomass.

Farmer, manufacturer, plant promoter or industrial buyer: whatever you need in the biomass sector, Peltra Energy is one place to get it.

Farmers
A buyer for residue instead of a match.
Manufacturers
Rates, buyers and quality specs to sell against.
Plant promoters
Feasibility, machinery, subsidies and offtake for a new unit.
Industrial buyers
Dependable fuel supply and the data to switch from coal.
Farmer beside burning crop residue

It started with seeing the problem.

We watched our grandfather, a farmer, burn his crop residue every season because there was no viable alternative. Fields ablaze and smoke in the air are what we remember.

As we grew older that memory became understanding: burning was costing farmers their livelihoods, degrading land, and creating air pollution that affected millions.

Peltra Energy was founded in Gurugram to fix that from the market side: give residue a price, give buyers a supplier, and give anyone who wants to build in biomass the numbers and the support to do it. PelletRates is how we do it.

Let’s build a better biomass market.
